Velda Anderson, age 87, of Aurora, passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2019, at Bryan/LGH East Medical Center in Lincoln.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, March 11th at Messiah Lutheran Church in Aurora. Rev. Sarah Ruch will officiate. Inurnment will be at the Aurora Cemetery. No Visitation. Memorials may be made in care of the family to designate at a later date. Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora is in charge of arrangements. OBITUARY: VELDA ANDERSON
Velda Fay Anderson, the daughter of George Ralph and Edna (Hamburger) Read, was born at home along with her twin sister, Nelda, near Inland in Clay County, Nebraska on November 14, 1931 and passed away on March 6, 2019 at the age of 87.
Velda was born and raised on the family farm. She received her education in the rural school near her home and attended Aurora High School, graduating in 1949.
Velda was united in marriage to Earl Jones in 1960 and they made their home on the family farm near Chapman in Merrick County until Earl’s passing in 1970.
Velda was united in marriage to Stanley Anderson in 1975 in Grand Island. They made their home in Hampton until moving to Aurora in 2000.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; and siblings, Ralph ‘Bub’ Read, Nelda Akerson, Merle ‘Short’ Read, Arlene Gibson and nephew, Leon Gibson, Jr.
Those left to cherish her memory are sons, Kim Jones of Tomball, Texas; Kevin (Mariel) Jones of Pleasant Valley, New York and Bryan (Melody) Jones of Lincoln; step-son, Michael Anderson of Boonesboro, Maryland; step-daughter, Sheri (Randy) Thompson of Martell, Nebraska; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
