Wendell Bergmark, age 83, of Aurora, passed away on Sunday, October 23, 2016, at Grand Island Veterans Medical Center.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, October 26th at Higby-McQuiston Chapel. Pastor Bob Gannon and Pastor Jim Garfield will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Aurora Cemetery at a later date. The family requests casual dress for the services. Visitation will be from 5 - 7 P.M. Tuesday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary. OBITUARY: WENDELL BERGMARK
Frank Wendell Bergmark, Sr. the son of Frank W. and Mildred Frances (Tivis) Bergmark, was born on the family farm northeast of Phillips, Nebraska on December 22, 1932 and passed away in Grand Island, Nebraska on October 23, 2016, at the age of 83.
He grew up on the family farm. Wendell’s father died when he was five. He graduated from Phillips High School in 1950. Wendell served in the U.S. Air Force from 1953-1957. He was honorably discharged and returned to Phillips to farm.
Wendell married Dorothy I. Stumbo on August 15, 1954. Wendell farmed until they retired and moved into Aurora in 1978. He enjoyed several manufacturing jobs before driving a maintainer for Hamilton County. Wendell enjoyed this job because he could watch the crops and livestock year round. Wendell was also the ‘dump man’ for several years at the city dump.
One of the things Wendell enjoyed was moving houses, barns and other buildings with his brother Wilford. He enjoyed woodworking, making squirrel feeders and bird houses.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Lynn Roger Bergmark and foster brother and wife, Mac & Ruby McMinn.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Dorothy of Aurora; five children, Frank (Marcia) Bergmark, Jr. of Grand Island, Beth (Jobie) Caster of Jones, Oklahoma, Laura (Bill) Peetzke of Aurora, Ted Bergmark of Aurora and Eric (Ginny) Bergmark of York; 6 grandchildren, Geoff (Lisa) Bergmark of Bangor, Maine, Stacey (Ben) McCarty of Columbus, Jayson Peetzke of Oshkosh, Lindsay Caster of Eufala, Oklahoma, Samantha Caster of Jones, Oklahoma, Alix (Alex) Adams of Lincoln and Jonas Bergmark of York; 4 great-grandchildren, Abigail Bergmark of Bangor, Maine, Samuel Wendell Bergmark of Bangor Maine, Penelope McCarty of Columbus, Peter Adams of Lincoln and one due in May; brother, Wilford (LaDonna) Bergmark of Aurora; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Stumbo of Lawrence, Kansas, Pat Stumbo of Lubbock, Texas and Lillian (Ken) Nealeigh of Casper, Wyoming and many other family members and friends.
