Lloyd Bowers

Lloyd Bowers, age 97, of Aurora, passed away on Wednesday, November 23, 2016, at Memorial Community Care.

Funeral Services will be held 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, November 29th at the United Methodist Church in Central City. Rev. Tom Lucas will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery at 2:00 P.M. Visitation will be from 5 - 7 P.M. Monday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at www.higbymortuary.com.

OBITUARY: LLOYD BOWERS

Lloyd Kenneth Bowers, the son of Louis Clyde and Ellen Nettie (Peterson) Bowers, was born on a farm southeast of Hordville, Nebraska on April 11, 1919 and passed away in Aurora, Nebraska on November 23, 2016, at the age of 97.

He attended grade school at District No. 18. Lloyd graduated from Hordville High School in 1937. He helped on the family farm until 1953 doing a lot of custom farm work.

On April 17, 1953, he was united in marriage to Alma Lena Dankert at the Zion Lutheran Church in Worms, Nebraska. On May 1, 1953 they moved to Aurora. To this union they had two children: James and Sue. Lloyd worked seven years as a meat cutter for Farmers Union Creamery; two years at Cargill Seed Company as a germinator of seeds and quality control and then worked as a clerk and appliance service man at Bremer Hardware Store. Lloyd served on the 4-H Council for two years and was a club leader in woodworking for a number of years. They belonged to the First Lutheran Church (Wisconsin Synod) in Aurora, where he served on the building committee, an elder and an usher. Lloyd finished his working career at Century Mfg. in Aurora where he was for 14 years. In 1981, Lloyd had heart problems and had to retire. Alma passed away on December 31, 1989.

On October 17, 1992, he was married to Emma Jane Wynn Peterson at the United Methodist Church Chapel in Central City. Lloyd transferred his membership to this church. They lived in the Hordville area. In 2000, Emma Jane due to her health had to go to a care facility. In 2008, Llloyd went to live at Memorial Community Care. Emma Jane passed away in 2012.

Lloyd enjoyed travelling, country music festivals and woodworking projects.

He was preceded in death by his parents; both wives and a brother, Don Bowers.

Those left to cherish his memory are his two children, Jim Bowers of Mt. Vernon, Washington and Sue Schultz of Aurora; 3 grandchildren, Jeff Bowers and Joy (Kevin) Broadway all of Mt. Vernon, Washington and Matthew Schultz of Kearney and many other relatives and friends.
