Alvin D. Ediger

Alvin D. Ediger, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend passed away July 6, 2016 at the age of 79.

Celebration of Life will be held 11:00 A.M., Saturday, July 9th at the Evangelical Free Church in Grand Island. Pastor Dan Brenton and Virgil Ediger will officiate. There will be no visitation. A private family grave side service will occur prior to the service. Al requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family to be designated at a later date. OBITUARY: ALVIN EDIGER

Alvin D. Ediger was born to David K. and Helena (Heinrichs) Ediger, near Henderson, Nebraska on April 11, 1937 and passed away in Aurora, Nebraska on July 6, 2016, at the age of 79.

He grew up on a farm near Henderson. Alvin attended the Henderson schools and graduated in 1956. As a young teenager he worked with Abe Regier doing farm work. He attended Tabor College for one year and in 1958 he did his 1-W service for two years at Meningers in Topeka, Kansas. Al married Gladys Regier on August 7, 1959 at the Mennonite Brethren Church. They lived in Topeka until 1960 when they moved to Aurora, Nebraska, where he worked for Maurice Kremer at Farm-Ade and Erv Ratzlaff. In 1965, Al started Ediger Construction which he ran for 40 years. Al and Gladys had Frames and Fotos for 11 years and also decorated weddings for 11 years with their daughter Deidre. Al drove a pilot car for 15 years along with Gladys, Orville Ott, Buzz Oswald and their son Brent. Al was a jack of all trades and mastered about everything he tried. He helped their son Bruce with stock cars for many years.

Al and Gladys have had 30 foster kids over the years. He also served on the Nebraska Foster and Adoptive Parents Group boards over the years.

Alís life revolved around his faith in Jesus Christ. He accepted Christ as a young boy. Al used his faith to reach out to others as he worked different jobs and to his family.

He grew up in the Mennonite Brethren Church in Henderson, many years were spent at Pleasant View Bible Church in Aurora, where he served as trustee, Awana leader, youth group leader, sang in the choir and quartet, and also helped build the church building. For the last 20 years, Al has been attending the Evangelical Free Church in Grand Island, where he sang in the First Singing Christmas Tree and many years after. He also helped build the tree used in the program.

Al has been talking with everyone who came to see him and wanting to know if they knew Christ. That was very important to him.

Al will be remembered for being a very generous, hard working, caring, loving and godly man. He was truly a gentle giant.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Gladys of Aurora; son, Bruce (Lori), granddaughter, Mandi (Travis), great-grandchildren, Avery and Alaina; son, Brent; daughter, Deidre (Jason) , granddaughter, Amanda, great-granddaughter, Bristal, grandsons, Ben, Alex (Siarra), daughter, Dacia, granddaughter, Neleah, Isabella, grandson, Trey; son, Jay (Audrey), granddaughters, Chloe and Avery, grandsons, Cooper and Colin; daughter, Autumn (Christian), grandchildren, Nicholaus and Emily.

Other survivors include: brothers, Jake (Esther) Ediger, Bob (Evelyn) Ediger, Virg (Evelyn) Ediger; sisters, Katherine (Ed) Rempel, Rose (Norm) Epp; brothers-in-law, Gene (Carol) Regier, Ken (Lavera) Regier, Dale (Theresa) Regier; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Jordan Vickinovac; his parents; his in-laws, Jake & Tena Regier; brother and sister-in-law, Walt and Jo Ediger.
