Frances Griffin, age 98, of Aurora, passed away Saturday, November 19, 2016, at Memorial Community Care.
Funeral Services will be held 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, November 23rd at the Aurora United Methodist Church. Rev. Karla Sheffy will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 - 7 P.M. Tuesday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary. Memorials may be made to the Ray & Frances Griffin Scholarship Fund at the Hamilton Community Foundation or the United Methodist Church. OBITUARY: FRANCES GRIFFIN
Frances Mildred Griffin, the daughter of William and Lottie (Zwonechek) Danek, was born in Lincoln, Nebraska on October 27, 1918 and passed away in Aurora, Nebraska on November 19, 2016, at the age of 98.
She was raised in Lincoln and met Ray at a dance in Lincoln.
On September 14, 1941, she married Ray A. Griffin, Sr. at Lincoln, Nebraska. They lived in many places before Ray was sent overseas during WW II. While he was overseas, Frances lived with Ray’s sister, Lois, in Alamosa, Colorado. After the war, they lived in Alma, NE, Smithfield, NE, Elwood, NE, Ogallala, NE and finally settled permanently in Aurora. Ray passed away on September 25, 1990.
Frances was a faithful member of the Aurora United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher and on the church courtesy committee. She did lots of knitting of baby booties, caps and blankets. Frances also knitted hundreds of dish doilies for sale at the church bazaars.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Ray Griffin, Jr.; three brothers, Bill, Milan and Jack Danek and their spouses.
Those left to cherish her memory are her three children, Sandy (Dan) Howland of Aurora, Bill (Kris) Griffin of Aurora and Steve (Janet) Griffin of Grand Island; 6 grandchildren, Kenny (Stacey) Howland, Geoff Griffin, Anne (Zack) Danhauer, Chase Griffin, Cass (Tom) Didier and Casey (Brionne) Griffin and 5 great-grandchildren, Torri, Mason, Landon, Peyton and Carter. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
