Marilyn Heuermann

Marilyn Heuermann, age 84, of Grand Island, passed away Monday, January 4, 2016, at the Tiffany Square.

Funeral Services will be held 10:30 A.M., Monday, January 11th at the First Presbyterian Church in Grand Island. Rev. Caroline Price-Gibson will officiate. Interment will be at 1:30 P.M. Monday in the Phillips Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 P.M. Sunday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. Memorials may be made in care of family. Marilyn Jean Heuermann, the daughter of Christian and Matilda (Prinz) Elseman, was born at Omaha, Nebraska on March 4, 1931 and passed away in Grand Island, Nebraska on January 4, 2016, at the age of 84.

She grew up in the Omaha area with her mother, losing her father when she was six. Marilyn graduated from Omaha South High School and received a degree in Home Economics from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. She taught school in Phillips for two years.

On February 8, 1953, she was united in marriage to Eugene M. Heuermann at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Omaha. They farmed in Hamilton County. Eugene passed away on August 11, 2009.

Marilyn was told she was the most involved stay at home mom. She was a 4-H Leader for close to 30 years, served on the Aurora School Board for 25 years, served on the Farm Bureau Board, chairman of the Hamilton County March of Dimes for many years and was a food judge for the county & Nebraska State Fairs for many years. Marilyn was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she served as deacon, Sunday school teacher and chairman of the funeral dinners for many years. She was also a member of the Phillips Women’s’ Extension Club.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband and two sisters, Ruth Wall and Zola Stahl and brother, August Elseman.

Those left to cherish her memory are her six children, Ken (Beth) Heuermann of St. Louis, Missouri, Karen (Keith) Maurer of Columbus, Fred (Lourdes) Heuermann of Grand Island, Cheryl Furse of Grand Island, John (Svetlana) Heuermann of Moscow, Russia and Troy (Kristin) Heuermann of St. Paul, Minnesota and 14 grandchildren, David and Sarah Heuermann of St. Louis, MO, Anna Maurer of Columbus, Andrew, Laura, Renae and Brandon Heuermann of Grand Island, Chris and Tom Furse of Grand Island, Arina and Renata Heuermann of Moscow and Max, Maggie and Nolan of St. Paul, MN. She is also survived by a brother-in-law, Keith (Norma) Heuermann of Phillips and four sisters-in-law, Dorothy Nelson of Fresno, California, Elizabeth Heuermann of Lincoln, Martha (Ralph) Knobel of Fairbury and Alma (Norm) Rohlfing of Talmage.
