Margaret Johnson, age 91, of Aurora, passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2018, at Memorial Community Care.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, January 11th at the Presbyterian United Church of Christ in Aurora. Pastor Bruce Bradley will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church, 930 K Street, Aurora. Memorials may be made to Presbyterian U.C.C.. OBITUARY: MARGARET JOHNSON
Margaret Ann (Carnes) Johnson, daughter of Lloyd and Mable (Silvernail) Carnes, was born on May 5, 1926, in Hamilton County, Nebraska and passed away on January 7, 2018 at Aurora, Nebraska at the age of 91.
Margaret was raised and educated in Aurora, graduating from Aurora High School in 1944.
After graduation, Margaret worked at the Hastings Naval Ammunition Depot for two years. She was a sales clerk for Lee Steele’s Rexall Drug Store for nine years. She also worked at Memorial Hospital in the housekeeping department for 19 ˝ years, retiring in 1989. Margaret was also a caregiver to her friend Velva Titman for a number of years.
Margaret Ann was united in marriage to Warren “Dick” Johnson on February 5, 1954, at the Federated Church in Aurora. They were the parents of two children: Larry Warren and Linda Kay. The lived their married life in Aurora for 47 years. Dick passed away on June 10, 2001.
Margaret was a member of the Presbyterian United Church of Christ. She served as a Deaconess and also served on the Parish Care Committee for many years.
She enjoyed her hobbies of stamp collecting, coin collecting, especially the state quarters for the U.S. maps. She also loved her collection of Thomas Kinkade paintings and his beautiful flags for the months of the year, as well as her beautiful collection of cups and saucers from her mother-in-law, Winnie Johnson Retland. Margaret loved the companionship of her pet schnauzer, Maggie, a gift to her from her husband, Dick.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Dick; son, Larry; daughter, Linda; parents, Lloyd and Mable Carnes; parents-in-law, Reuben Johnson and Winnie and Bill Retland; sister, Beverly Newsom; brothers, Kenneth “Bill” Carnes, Donald Carnes, and Larry Carnes; sisters-in-law, Avis Carnes and Beverly Johnson; brother-in-law, Geral Newsom; and nephew, Sherrill Newsom.
Margaret is survived by her sisters-in-law, Jan Carnes of Florida, Jackie Lund of Lincoln, NE, and Clara Mae Dishington of Redondo Beach, CA; brother-in-law Dale Johnson of Hebron, NE; and many close family members and friends.
