LaVern Klute, age 86, of Hampton, passed away Sunday, July 24, 2016, at CHI-St. Francis Medical Center.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, July 28th at Zion Lutheran Church northeast of Hampton. Rev. Jim Gruber and Pastor David Ohlman will officiate. Interment will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 - 8 P.M. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church, 1511 North Y Road, Hampton. OBITUARY: LAVERN KLUTE
LaVern Lewis Klute, son of Reinhard and Minnie Klute (Dethloff) was born near Hampton, Nebraska on December 29, 1929 and passed away on Sunday July 24, 2016 at Grand Island, Nebraska at the age of 86.
He was baptized on January 12, 1930 and he was confirmed on May 21, 1944 at Zion Lutheran Church of Hampton. He was the youngest of 6 boys and attended Zion Lutheran School and graduated from Hampton High School.
LaVern served his country in the Army and was in the 241st Field Artillery missile Battalion at Fort Bliss, Texas, which was instrumental in launching the first guided missile.
After the unexpected death of his father, Lavern took over the Klute farm. He farmed and raised cattle and hogs. This farm has been in the Klute family for over 132 years.
He was united in marriage to Doris Wall on September 23, 1951 at Zion Lutheran Church. They were blessed with five children; Ann, Joyce, Dean, Mark and Kay.
LaVern was an avid ping-pong player, which started in the service and continued on throughout his life.
LaVern served on numerous church offices of Zion Lutheran Church. He was a member of the Feeders Association, Lutheran Laymanís League, the American Legion, and served on the Southern Power Board for 34 years.
LaVern was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed rooting for the Nebraska Huskers, Hampton Hawks and Kansas City Royals. Throughout the years LaVern and Doris attended hundreds of their kids activities involving sports, school functions, 4-H activities and church programs.
He is preceded in death by his wife Doris, his parents and five brothers, Elmer, Wilbert (Jack), Gerhardt (Jerry), Raymond and Edgar.
He is survived by his five children; Ann Hansen (Craig) of Lincoln, Joyce Klute of Omaha, Dean Klute (Sharon) of Hampton, Mark Klute (Melanie) of Hampton, Kay Dexter (Marlynn) of Boonville, Missouri, eight Grandchildren Shauna Elstun, Chad Hansen (Amy), Sheila Mays (Evan), Kendra Betz (Josh), Kyle Klute (Lauran), Kelsey Klute (Justin Harders), Derek Klute (Jennifer), Katelyn Goertzen (Coleman) and 21 Great-grandchildren Haley, Lannie, Grant, Holdyn, Carson and McKenley Elstun, Cobe, Ty, and Jack Hansen, Lucas Hansen, Olivia, Macey and Mallory Mays, Adelyn and Owen Betz, Jonathan Klute, Evan Pankoke, Atleigh and Wyatt Klute, Cassidy Goertzen and Katie Kuntz, two sisters-in-law Dorothy Klute of Aurora, Nebraska and Ruth Klute of Minnesota and two brothers-in-law Edgar Wall (Anita) and Dale Wall (Susan) both of Hampton, Nebraska and numerous nieces and nephews.
