Lincoln native Mike McQuiston has joined Higby Mortuary in Aurora as part owner and funeral director.
"At a time when large corporate acquisitions are taking place with family funeral homes, Higby Mortuary chose to remain privately owned and will continue in the same tradition as Hamilton County's only family-owned and operated mortuary," said Jim Higby.
Higby will remain active in operation and management of Higby Mortuary and Ron Messman will continue full time until April 1 when he will assume a part-time position.
McQuiston and his family will live in the apartment adjacent to the mortuary.
McQuiston has been in funeral service for 12 years. Following his graduation from Lincoln Pius in 1983, he attended mortuary school in Dallas, graduating in 1986. He served as a licensed funeral director in Dallas for two years, then returned to Lincoln and served with Roper and Sons Mortuary for six years and Metcalf Funeral Home for three years.
McQuiston said he is happy and excited to be part of the Aurora community. "Aurora is a great, strong town. I'm happy to be here and be part of the community. I have a few relatives in town, so I am already familiar with the community," he said. McQuiston's great uncle is Boyd Jones.
McQuiston and his wife, Linda, have two children, Laura is seven and in first grade and Ben is four and attends Crayola College. They will be members of St. Mary's Church in Aurora.
"Mike and his family are anxious to be part of the Hamilton County community through the schools, their church and civic organizations," Higby said. "You will find Mike to be a caring, helping and sincere man, worthy of your trust. Take time to meet Mike and his family and help them to get to know you," he added.
