Idonna Russell, age 84, of Aurora, passed away Thursday, March 17, 2016, at the Hamilton Manor.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 P.M. Monday, March 21st at the Chapel of Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. Rev. Ron Harris will officiate. Interment will be in Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to the Aurora United Methodist Church. OBITUARY: IDONNA RUSSELL
Idonna S. Russell, the daughter of John A. and Bessie M. (Keim) Proctor, was born in Kansas City, Missouri on July 2, 1931 and passed away in Aurora, Nebraska on March 17, 2016, at the age of 84.
Her family lived in Florida, Tennessee, Lawrence, NE and Grand Island, NE before moving to Phillips, NE. As a young person she tended her four younger brothers while her parents worked. Idonna attended Monroe Country School and Aurora High School graduating in 1951.
Idonna married Richard Dean Russell on June 8, 1952 at the Aurora E.U.B. Church. Dick took a position as a State of Nebraska License Examiner, which took them to Norfolk NE, West Point NE, Omaha NE, Lincoln, NE between 1952 to 1959. In 1959, they moved to Syracuse, NE where Dick worked on Minuteman Missile sites then to Riley KS where Dick operated a crane for the construction of the dam near Junction City KS. They returned to Aurora in 1963. Idonna worked as a nurse’s aide at Aurora Memorial Hospital and ran a detasseling crew for a number of years for Prairie Valley/Stauffer Seed Company. She served as a custodian for the Hamilton County Fairgrounds and she ended her career working at the Aurora Mall where she enjoyed helping everyone she knew. Richard passed away on February 21, 1995.
Idonna enjoyed ballroom and country western dancing. She volunteered at the Plainsman Museum, caring for the landscaping and especially the flowers. She maintained contact with the AHS Class of 1951 and organizing reunion activities and events.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband and two brothers, Jonas and Dean Proctor.
Those left to cherish her memory are her two children, Rick (Debra) Russell of Gold River, California and Kristy Riddle of Columbus; 4 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren and 4 brothers, Robert (Bob) Proctor of Aurora, Bruce Proctor of Las Vegas, Nevada, Carlos Proctor of Oxford and David Proctor of Decatur, Alabama and many nieces and nephews.
