LaVonne Smith, age 66, of Hampton, passed away Tuesday, November 20, 2018, at the Henderson Care Center after fighting Huntington’s disease.
Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, November 24th at the Monroe Evangelical Free Church near Phillips. Rev. Doug Willey and Rev. Vance Christie will officiate. Private family interment will be prior to the service at the Hampton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 - 8 P.M. Friday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. OBITUARY: LAVONNE SMITH
LaVonne Carol Smith, was born August 26, 1952, in Henderson to Richard and Ardith (Peters) Regier. She was raised in the Henderson and Hampton area and graduated from Hampton High School in 1970.
LaVonne attended business courses at Kearney State College and on April 8, 1972, married Terry W. Smith in Henderson at the Bethesda Mennonite Church. LaVonne was a stay at home mother. She devoted her life raising and encouraging their children in school and all their activities. LaVonne extended this same passion to many other children in Hampton. She worked at the Hamilton County Clerk’s office, A.T.I and supported her husband’s business, Smith Plumbing & Well Service, doing his secretarial and bookkeeping duties. The couple lived in Hampton at the same residence for 46 years and seven months before Terry placed her at the Henderson Care Center for her final days.
LaVonne attended the Aurora Evangelical Free Church and Monroe Evangelical Free Church. She was a member of the Hampton Homemakers and enjoyed sewing, quilting and bowling.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Terry of Hampton; three children, Shelley (Brian) Graves of Boston, Mass., Eric J. (Robyn) Smith of McCook and Sheila (Dee) Riggs of Henderson; 8 grandchildren, Skylar Smith, Annalee Smith, Merea Smith, Zane Smith, Barrett Smith, Camden Riggs, Hayden Riggs and Jaren Riggs; mother-in-law, Pauline Smith of Hampton; sister, Sandra (Jess) Huebert of Aurora; brother-in-law, Jerry Young of York; sister-in-law, JoAnnette Regier of Hampton; nieces, nephews and many other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, father-in-law Ivan Smith, a sister, Diane Young and brother, Randy Regier.
