OBITUARY: GEORJEAN SORENSEN
Georjean Nora Sorensen, the daughter of George and Sigrid (Berg) Jensen, was born in Crescent, Iowa on January 13, 1927, and passed away in Aurora, Nebraska on March 3, 2016, at the age of 89.
Jean grew up in Crescent, Iowa and was one of 11 children. She spent her childhood helping care for her siblings and with farm chores.
Jean had two children from her first marriage and on August 12, 1949 she married Chris Sorensen. They farmed northeast of Fullerton for 13 years. Chris and Jean had two more children. They moved to Chrisís family home farm in Marquette. Jean shucked corn, handled hay bales, fixed fence, milked cows, helped with threshing grain and raised chickens. She also tended to a large garden and home canned her fresh produce. After Chris died she sold the family farm in 2005 and moved to Aurora.
Jean was an active member of the Kronborg Lutheran Church. She served as Janitor for 20 years, taught Sunday and Vacation Bible School, served on numerous committees and was the WELCA president for four years. She volunteered at the Senior Center, Hamilton Manor and the Villa. She lost count how many quilts she had made, but it was very common for her to turn out 40 plus a year donating to Lutheran Relief and other causes.
Preceding her in death are her parents, George and Sigrid Jensen; husband, Christian ĎChrisí Sorensen; daughter, Joan Miller; granddaughter, Kristi Eggli; three siblings, Henry Jensen, Leonard Jensen and Betty Woolsencroft.
Those left to cherish her memory are her three children, Robert (Kathy) Sorensen of Fullerton, Clyde (Debbie) Sorensen of Phillips and Marie (Bill) Hicks of Gardner, KS; 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Harry, Robert, Harold, Marvin and Johnny Jensen, Dorothy Lee and Geraldine Stahlnecker, all of Iowa.
