DeAnna Athey

DeAnna Athey, age 34, of Aurora, passed away on Wednesday, July 7, 2021, CHI-St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.

Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 11th at the East Hill Church of Christ, 1122 Delaware Avenue in York. Rev. Glenn Hawley will officiate. No visitation. The family requests casual attire and facemasks to be worn during the service. Memorials may be made in care of the family for future designation. DeAnna Leigh Athey, the daughter of Marvin Scott and Mary Margaret (Grotzky) Athey, Jr., was born in Grand Island, Nebraska on November 18, 1986, and passed away in Grand Island, Nebraska on July 7, 2021 at the age of 34.

DeAnna grew up in Aurora and graduated from Aurora High School in 2005. While going to school, DeAnna volunteered at the Aurora Animal Shelter. She then worked at the McDonald's in Aurora from 2006 to 2011. She moved to York and worked for Walmart from 2011 to 2019. DeAnna returned to the area living with her sister, Barbara, in Hampton and returned to work with her McDonald's family until her death.

DeAnna was a baptized member of the East Hill Church of Christ in York, Nebraska. She enjoyed being a part of the York bowling leagues. She loved her family, friends, children, and animals as well as tending to her beautiful flowers. DeAnna especially loved to spoil her nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father; grandparents, Richard & Barbara Grotzky and Marvin & Vesta Athey; aunt, JoAnn Grotzky and niece, Lauren Grace Athey.

Those left to cherish her memory are her mother, Mary of Aurora; four siblings, Verl Scott (Lindsay) Athey of Ft. Collins, CO, Barbara Athey of Aurora, Matthew (Mary) Athey of Greeley, CO and Michael Athey of Benton, AR; cousin, Tina Grotzky of Grand Island and many other family members and countless friends.
