Evelyn Driewer

Evelyn Driewer, age 90, of Stromsburg, passed away on Saturday, February 5, 2022, at Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg. Her Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, February 11th at the Chapel of Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. Rev. Erik Rasmussen will officiate. Interment will be in the Naponee Cemetery at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Visitation will be from 5 - 7 P.M. Thursday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. Evelyn Elaine Driewer, the daughter of Julius and Henrietta (Rathjen) Rathje, was born in York, Nebraska on January 22, 1932 and departed this earth to be with our Lord on February 5, 2022, at the age of 90.

She grew up in York and graduated from York High School. Evelyn was united in marriage to Lewis Driewer on March 28, 1951 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York. After Lewis returned from the Army, they settled in the Hampton area to farm.

Evelyn was a mother and housewife involved in her children's school and activities and also in the farming. She enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, baking, gardening and sewing. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church. After her children graduated, she worked as a dental assistant in Henderson and Aurora. She was also a member of the local American Legion Auxiliary.

Evelyn and Lewis retired to Republican City. She became a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Republican City. She joined the St. Paul's Ladies Group, the local American Legion Auxiliary, Taylor Manor Association and the Harlan County Arts Council. Evelyn had various jobs including as an aide in the Alma Public Schools that she thoroughly enjoyed. In 2015, Evelyn and Lewis moved to Willow Brook in York. In 2021, she moved to Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lewis; son, Larry; her brothers and sisters and their spouses and several nephews and nieces.

Those left to cherish her memory are her three children, Leslie (Ed) Lippert of Arvada, Colorado, Vicki (Neil) Rasmussen of Ruston, Louisiana and Jim Driewer of Hampton; daughter-in-law Janet (Larry) Driewer of Hampton; 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Dolores Bartholomew of Seward, and many nieces and nephews.
