Robert Hartzell

Robert Hartzell, age 92, formerly of Aurora, passed away on Saturday, November 6, 2021, at Azria Health in Central City.

His wishes were to be cremated. His family will hold a private family graveside service. Inurnment will be in the Inland Cemetery. No visitation. Robert Lee Hartzell, the son of William Wylie and Ora Ruth (Burwell) Hartzell, was born at Stockham, Nebraska on March 13, 1929 and passed away in Central City, Nebraska on November 6, 2021, at the age of 92.

He attended school in Stockham. Bob served in the U.S. Air Force during Korea being honorably discharged in September 1951 after serving for four years.

Bob was married to Bea Budler on January 13, 1953. They had four children: Cindy, Cathy, Phil and Doug. In 1955, they moved to California and returned to Aurora in 1968. Most of his working career he was the maintenance supervisor for the Aurora School System.

Bob was married to Ryta Morgan on December 5, 1992. They most recently lived in Arizona before moving to Downs, Kansas to be closer to family.

He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, having served as commander when they lived in Arizona. Bob was a member of the model airplane association. He loved ham radios for many years, his call name was KA0KSU. In his younger years, he liked driving stock cars.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Clayton Hartzell and Gerald Hartzell; three sisters, Iona Salmon, Jean Luth and Betty Phillips and great-grandson, Antonio Schmidt.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Ryta of Grand Island; four children, Cindy (Tom) Schroeder of Central City, Cathy (George) Cargill of Grand Island, Phil (Lorie) Hartzell of Aurora and Doug Hartzell & Doraine Fitzgerald of Omaha; 9 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 3 step-children, Jan (Kevin) Mason, Lori Pishna & Dale Burns and Tranella (Bruce) McCoy; 10 step-grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren and other family members and friends.
