Gregoria Montelongo, age 74, of Grand Island, passed away Thursday, June 20, 2019, at CHI Health St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, June 25th at the Chapel of Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. Pastor Sergio Urbina will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 - 7 P.M. Monday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary. OBITUARY: GREGORIA MONTELONGO
Gregoria Rivera Montelongo, the daughter of Longino and Sabina (Aguilar) Rivera, was born in Donna, Texas on May 9, 1945 and passed away in Grand Island, Nebraska on June 20, 2019, at the age of 74.
Gregoria grew up in south Texas and attended school in Caldwell County, Texas thru the 3rd grade. She worked harvesting crops in the fields in south Texas. West Texas was their home for winter and travelled up states from teen years until 1968, when Gregoria met and was married to Xavier ‘Jerry’ Montelongo on April 7, 1968. They resided in Aurora, Nebraska where she became a housewife and they raised their six children.
Gregoria enjoyed working at Red & White for several years and Lippincott Inc. in Aurora before moving to Grand Island. Jerry passed away on August 24, 2015. Gregoria’s achievement was to make and sell tamales to fund Jerry’s funeral. She loved sewing, crocheting and beading. Gregoria loved to cook, plant flowers and playing card games and table games with her family and friends. She spent her past time listening to Christian and Mexican music as well Gregoria loved playing the keyboard and singing to the Lord with all her heart!
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Those left to cherish her memory are her six children, Raymond Montelongo of Grand Island, Jesse Lopez of Slaton, Texas, Anita Rivera of Grand Island, Dora McIntosh of Grand Island, Marco Montelongo of South Dakota and Daniel Montelongo of Grand Island; 14 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers & sisters, Ernestina R. Villanueva of Lubbock, Texas, Maria R. Lopez of Slaton, Texas, Lorenzo Rivera of Lubbock, Texas, Anastacio Rivera of Donna, Texas, Claudio Rivera of Greeley, Colorado and Eulalia Guevara of Lincoln, Nebraska and many nieces and nephews, family members and friends.
