Tom Newlun, age 86, of Aurora, passed away Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at Memorial Hospital.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, July 13th at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Aurora. Rev. Mark Seiker will officiate. The Rosary will be 7:00 p.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church with visitation from 5 - 7 p.m. at the church. Memorials may be made to the family to designate at a later date. OBITUARY: THOMAS NEWLUN
Thomas Leroy Newlun, the son of Marion and Dorothy (Penner) Newlun was born in Aurora, Nebraska on October 28, 1934 and passed away in Aurora, Nebraska on July 7, 2021.
Tom grew up in Aurora and graduated from Aurora High School. Tom served in the U. S. Air Force from December 1953 to October 1957. He was stationed in Korea, Okinawa and New Mexico before being honorably discharged. Upon returning to Aurora, Tom worked at Marion Farm Equipment for several years, before working as a mechanic at the Harlow Newman GM Dealership and Grosshans.
Tom married Arlene Safarik on November 26, 1966 at Elba. Tom became self-employed with Skelly Sinclair Service Station from 1961 - 1972. In 1972, he began Tom's Used Cars & Trailers, where he worked for 38 years, retiring in 2010.
Tom was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Third City Archery Club for 20 years, where he was State Champion in barebow archery several times. He was also a member of the Aurora Golf Club since 1966 and enjoyed playing on the Tuesday Morning Senior League and the Thursday select travel team. Tom enjoyed his Saturday morning coffee at Valta’s with the guys. Besides golf, he also loved to hunt and fish.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marianne Newlun and grandson, Peyton Newlun.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 55 years, Arlene of Aurora; six children, Michael (Pamela) Newlun of Mountain Home, AR, Craig (Stephanie) Newlun of The Woodlands, TX, Paige (Larry) Fox, Jr. of Aurora, Leigh (Kelly) Myers of Cairo, Derek (Shauna) Newlun of Littleton, CO and Sarah (Trevor) Hoegh of Yutan; 18 grandchildren, Shawn, Alyssa, Audrey, Anna, Dillon, Logan, Grant, Garrett, Jaden, Emma, Abbey, Madeline, Blake, Chase, Aniston, Briggs, Mabry and Colby; 2 great-grandchildren, Henry and Ruby. He is also survived by his sister, Betty (Art) VanLuchene of Aurora and many other relatives and friends.
