Darrell Purdy, 86, of Aurora, passed away at Memorial Community Care on Saturday, October 1, 2022.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 13th at the Aurora United Methodist Church. Rev. Michelle Reed will officiate. The service will be livestreamed on the church's website. Please go to www.umcaurora.org, scroll down and click on livestream. Inurnment will be in the Phillips Cemetery at a later date. No Visitation. Memorials may be designated to Aurora Memorial Community Health. Higby-McQuiston is in charge of arrangements. OBITUARY: DARRELL PURDY
Darrell Wayne Purdy, the son of Alvin and Dorothy (Arnett) Purdy was born on April 3, 1936 in Phillips, Nebraska and passed away at Aurora, Nebraska on October 1, 2022 at the age of 86.
Darrell grew up in Phillips and graduated from Phillips High School in 1953. During his high school career in 1953 he tied for second in the High Jump at the State Track Meet. After graduation Darrell enlisted in the Army National Guard of Nebraska and was Honorably Discharged in 1962.
Darrell was married to Phyllis J. Kruse on May 24, 1958 at Aurora, Nebraska. They had three children: Peggy, Brenda, and Charles. Darrell and his wife Phyllis were partners in their farming operation for many years. During this time Darrell was passionate about his livestock, especially working with his kids and traveling to various progress shows, State Fair, and AK-SAR-BEN. Darrell was a leader for the Lincoln Creek 4-H Club for many years. Darrell and Phyllis enjoyed traveling including Texas, Utah and various Cruise trips.
After moving to Aurora in 1987, Darrell was employed by Ampride Service Station and Stan Alan Motors.
During his retirement Darrell enjoyed working in the yard and mowing the Countryside Court lawns and was especially proud of his flowers. Darrell was a devoted Grandfather attending various school and 4-H events for his Grandkids and Great-Grandkids.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Charles (Chuck) Purdy, sister Marilyn Stueven, and sister-in-law Barbara Epp.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Phyllis of 64 years; two daughters, Peggy (Clark) Vetter of Franklin, Nebraska and Brenda (Doyle) Robison of Kinsley, Kansas. Grandchildren, Christina (Terry) Queckboerner, Corey Kliewer and friend Monique Funk, Kathrine (Mike) Griess, Kelsey (Jaime) Holguin, Adam Vetter and friend Kara Dauel, and 7 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Eldon of Omaha and several nieces, nephews, and other family members.
