Shirley Rasmussen

Shirley Rasmussen, age 78, of Giltner, passed away Thursday, March 17, 2022, at her home.

Funeral Services will be held 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, March 22nd at the St. John's Church in Kronborg. Rev. Ricardo Riqueza will officiate. Interment will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 Monday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. Memorials may be made to the family to designate at a later date. Shirley May Rasmussen, the daughter of Wert Onno and Verna Marie (Groenewold) Hinrichs, was born in Hastings, Nebraska on May 24, 1943 and passed away in Giltner, Nebraska on March 17, 2022, at the age of 78.

She grew up in Giltner and graduated from Giltner High School.

Shirley was married to Fred Hernandez on March 10, 1965. They had two daughters: Michele and Connie. Shirley worked at McCain Foods (Ore-Ida) for over 30 years.

On March 24, 1979, she married Donald C. Rasmussen at Giltner, an they resided in Giltner. Don passed away on February 28, 1990.

Shirley loved her grandchildren and enjoyed attending their school activities and sporting events. Shirley was a people person, whether it be around town, out shopping or when she went to the casino.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Don Rasmussen; sister and brother-in-law and grandson.

Those left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Michele Ann (Max) Hawthorne of Grand Island and Connie Lynn (Jim) Gustafson of Beaver City; 5 grandchildren, Tyler Hawthorne and fiance' Joey Huff, Kyle Hawthorne, Jessica (Jody) Enfield, Cassie (Cory) Morten and Seth (Jamie) Gustafson; 8 great-grandchildren, Trevan, Caden, Ethan, Logan, Barrett, Layla, Laramie, Waylon and one on the way; two special friends, Kathy Osborne and Glennie Coats and many other relatives and friends.
