Grant Saddler

Grant Saddler, age 79, of Aurora, passed away Sunday, February 12, 2023, at Memorial Community Care.

A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 A.M., Friday, February 17th at the Aurora United Methodist Church, 1104 A Street. Rev. Michelle Reed will officiate. Inurnment will be at a later date in the Greenwood Cemetery at Trumbull, NE. Memorials may be made in care of the family to be designated at a later date. Grant Eugene Saddler, the son of Harry V. and Dorothy May (Dominy) Saddler, was born in Hastings, Nebraska on March 30, 1943 and passed away at Aurora, Nebraska on February 12, 2023, at the age of 79.

He grew up on two different farms near Juanita, NE until the 5th grade. At that time, his family moved to Giltner, NE. Grant graduated from Giltner High School and went to Milford Trade School. His major was autobody. Grant went to work for Wortman Ford Garage in the body shop.

Following this he enlisted in the Navy in December of 1965. He was on a submarine tender helping to repair submarines. After four years, he was honorably discharged and returned to Aurora and joined his dad's business, Saddler Welding. In the early 1980's he had a new building built for his welding shop. His specialty was building porch railings, including the ones at the Aurora Post Office. He was very active welding for area farmers. Grant also created the three crosses located on the east side of the United Methodist Church. Grant worked at Memorial Hospital in the maintenance department for 14 years.

On June 30, 1964, he was united in marriage to Lois Elaine Swanson at Grace Lutheran Church near Swedeberg, NE. They had 3 children: Tim, Steve and Suzie. Tim was born August 24, 1966 Steve was born January 17, 1969 both in San Diego, CA at the Balboa Naval Hospital. Suzie was born October 9, 1970 in Aurora, NE at Memorial Hospital.

Grant was a 51-year member of the Aurora American Legion. He was a very active member of the Aurora Volunteer Fire Department, where he was Assistant Chief for a year and Captain of Unit 1 for many years. Grant was a member of the United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry & Dorothy Saddler and in-laws, Norvin & Alice Swanson.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Lois of Aurora; 3 children, Tim (Tracy) Saddler of Lincoln, Steve (Martha) Saddler of Aurora and Suzie (Troy) Dixon of Aurora; 7 grandchildren, Kylee (Preston) Berger, Tanner (Sarah) Bice, Emily Saddler, Rebecca Saddler, Allison Saddler, Jake (Brittany Eastman) Dixon and Hailey Dixon; 4 great-grandchildren, Arlo and Thea Berger and Addalyn and Zandyr Bice; brother & sister-in-law, Dale and Carol Saddler; sister-in-law, Karen Swanson and many other family members and friends.
