Patricia Shanes

Patricia (Pat) Lynn Shanes, 78, of Aurora, Nebraska, passed away June 21, 2022.

She was buried per her wishes in a private family ceremony near her childhood home at Rushville, Missouri. Higby-McQuiston Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at www.higbymortuary.com.


Pat was born on May 13, 1944 to William and Laverne (Witte) Magers in Atchison, Kansas. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran in Atchison. Pat also attended Trinity Lutheran Grade School and later, Atchison High School. She was married to Eddie Carnoali of Leavenworth, Kansas. To this union, two sons Eddie Jr. and Jeffery Carnoali were born. The couple later divorced. She was married August 30, 1974 to Vyck Shanes in Independence, Missouri. Pat worked as an office administrator for most of her career. She was employed by Channel-9 News in Kansas City; various Independence, Missouri medical centers; and the Kansas City school system where she worked with payroll.

Pat loved to sing and play her guitar. She was involved in several professional bands in the Atchison-Kansas City area including the "Rock Tones" and the "4-Way Stops."

Pat was active in her church in worship, Bible Study, and choir. In her leisure time she enjoyed following Mizzou basketball and Kansas City Chiefs football. Most of all she loved being with her family.

Pat is preceded in death by her parents and her husband Vyck.

She is survived by her sons Eddie Carnoali (Jean) of Adair, Iowa, and Jeff Carnoali (Mindy) of Independence, Missouri. She has four grandchildren: Johnathon Carnoali (Krysten) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Mary Carnoali (Rynn) of Madison, Wisconsin, Mica Carnoali of Grandview, Missouri and Makenna Carnoali of Raytown, Missouri, and one great-grandchild: Noah Ramirez of Raytown, Missouri. She is also survived by her brother, Bill Magers (Marsha) of Creston, Iowa, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
