Harry Thomas

Harry Thomas, age 95, of Aurora, passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2020, at Westfield Quality Care.

Harry & Janice Thomas, were laid to rest together at the Hordville Cemetery on Friday, May 29, 2020. They only passed away 12 days apart. Janice on April 24th and Harry on May 6th. Their family plans to hold a Celebration of Life service for them at the Messiah Lutheran Church at a later date. Memorials may be made to any of their favorite charities, The VA, the Messiah Lutheran Church of Aurora or the Memorial Hospital Thrift Shop. Harry James Thomas, the son of Harry & Serena (Lyon) Thomas, was born in Dayton, Ohio on June 27, 1924 and passed away on May 6, 2020 at the age of 95.

Harry grew up and attended school in Dayton, Ohio. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. Harry received a Purple Heart when he was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge. He was honorably discharged on January 8, 1946. Harry returned and went to work at Wright Patterson Air Force Base. He became a Defense Manager of Contracts in California and Colorado. (San Bernadino, CA, Denver, CO, Santa Maria, CA, Thousand Oaks, CA and Dayton, OH.)

Harry married Janice Bengston on December 11, 1976 at Thousand Oaks, CA and they moved to Aurora, NE in 1986.

He was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church. He had a beautiful voice and loved to sing, a gift he shared with many at the retirement home.

Harry was a member of the National Contracts Management Association for 15 years, the V.F.W, American Legion, D.A.V and enjoyed years of square dancing in Thousand Oaks, CA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Janice on April 24, 2020 and step-daughter, Coleen Elida Hellstrom.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Kathie (Dan) Sperow, Mike Thomas and Timothy Thomas all of CA and Christy (Mike) Dumond of CO; step-daughter, Jackie (Darryl) Chapman; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and many more nieces & nephews, relatives and friends. He will be deeply missed..........
