Ron Thompson, age 62, of Aurora, passed away Thursday, March 4, 2021, at home.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, March 8th at Monroe Evangelical Free Church of Phillips. Rev. Joe Mullarkey will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 - 7 P.M., Sunday at Monroe Evangelical Free Church, 1001 West 18 Road Phillips. The family invites you to wear your favorite team's apparel or colors to the both services and in Ron style, shorts if you choose. The service will be livestreamed on https://www.facebook.com/monroeefc. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to A'ROR'N Days Poker Run. Higby-McQuiston Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. OBITUARY: RON THOMPSON
Ronald Fred Thompson, Jr., the son of Ronald Fred and Jeanie (Haywood) Thompson, Sr. was born at Scottsbluff, Nebraska on April 16, 1958 and passed away in Aurora, Nebraska on March 4, 2021, at the age of 62.
Ron grew up in Gering and graduated from Gering High School. He received his Associates Degree in Electrical Engineering. Ron spent his entire career of 40+ years working for NPPD. He worked in the North Platte and Ogallala offices before spending the last 24 years in the Doniphan office. In the roll as Energy Manager, he was a very dedicated employee.
On August 1, 1981, Ron married Debra Jo Darnell at the Berean Church in Mitchell, Nebraska. They have three children, Ronnie, Ryler and Lyndsee. They raised their family in Aurora.
Ron was a Green Bay Packers and a Husker fan. He enjoyed camping with his family. Ron loved spending time and spoiling his three granddaughters. Ron never met a stranger and could always manage to put a smile on your face. He was very dedicated to his family and his community, contributing in many ways.
He was preceded in death by his mother and mother-in-law, Phyllis Darnell.
Those who remain to cherish his memory are his wife of 39 years, Deb of Aurora; 3 children, Ronnie (Kristina) Thompson of Lincoln, Ryler Thompson of Provo, Utah and Lyndsee (Kaleb) Shively of Bellevue; 3 grandchildren, Maddie, Violet and Willow and another granddaughter on the way; father & step-mother, Ronald & Sam Thompson, Sr. of Colorado Springs, CO, two sisters, Sandy (R.J.) Parmenter of Scottsbluff and Becky (Jim) Schmidt of Colorado Springs, CO; brother, Rusty (Mechele) Thompson of Garden City, Kansas; step-brother, Bryan (Ethel) Broberg of Cheyenne, WY; step-sister, Robin Collins of Arvada, Colorado; father-in-law, Jim Darnell, Jr, and numerous aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and many other family members and friends who were like family.
