Pauline Torgerson, age 101, of Aurora, passed away Saturday, July 27, 2019 at Memorial Community Care.
A Memorial Services will be held 10:30 A.M., Thursday, August 1st at the Aurora United Methodist Church. Rev. Michelle Reed will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Giltner Cemetery at 1:30 P.M. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to the family for support of Mary Lanning Nursing scholarships. Higby-McQuiston Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. OBITUARY: PAULINE TORGERSON
Pauline Torgerson, the daughter of Ervin Elmer and Florence Margaret (Wagner) Bish, was born in Hamilton County, Nebraska on June 18, 1918 and passed away on July 27, 2019 at Aurora, Nebraska at the age of 101.
She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Giltner High School in 1935.
The following year she attended Kearney State College before enrolling in the Mary Lanning nursing program in Hastings to become a registered nurse. She worked as a nurse in Worland, WY, and then entered a training program in Detroit, MI, to become an anesthetist. She worked in that specialty in Omaha, NE, until she moved to Fort Worth, TX, in 1944 to marry Oscar W. Torgerson before he shipped out to serve in Army Air Force during World War II.
While he was overseas, Pauline worked as an anesthetist in a Fort Worth hospital. After the war, they returned to Nebraska in 1949, and began farming near Giltner and later southwest of Aurora. She continued nursing at various times and eventually worked as an RN at Hamilton Manor until her retirement.
They raised two children, Susan and John.
Pauline was life-long member of the Methodist Faith, and was a member of the Giltner United Methodist Church, before transferring to the Aurora Church. She was an active member of Methodist Women and Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, John Torgerson, and four brothers, Steve, Roy, Cyril, and Bill Bish, and a grandson, James How.
Those who remain to cherish her memory are her daughter, Susan How of Somers, MT; granddaughter, Linden How, Portland, OR; sister, Bonnie Ives, also of Portland, OR, and many beloved nieces and nephews and extended family.
