Gail Wert, age 83, of Aurora, passed away on Monday, May 3, 2021 at Country House in Grand Island.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 7th at the Aurora Methodist Church, 1104 A Street, Aurora. Revs. Greg and Michelle Reed will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 - 7 p.m. on Thursday at the church. Memorials may be made to the family to designate at a later date. OBITUARY: GAIL WERT
Gail Robert Wert, the son of John and Ruth (George) Wert, Jr. was born in rural Hamilton County, Nebraska on October 6, 1937 and passed away on May 3, 2021 at the age of 83.
He graduated from Aurora High School in 1956 and then started his lifelong career of farming. Gail met Norma on a blind date in 1958.
Gail married Norma Heesch on June 4, 1960 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Grand Island, NE. They made their home on the farm for the next 60+ years. They raised three children: Ann Marie, Lori Jean and Robert Eugene, who gave them many happy memories.
Gail was a member of the Aurora United Methodist Church, where he helped with the sound system for many years. He also belonged to the York-Hamilton County Feeders Association, Grand Island and Aurora Model Airplane Clubs, serving as vice-president and the Grand Island Saddle Club.
Gail loved to travel especially cruising from Alaska, Hawaii, Panama Canal and the Caribbean Islands with friends. He loved seeing his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ruth; brother, Gary Wert and daughter, Ann Marie Deaver.
Those who remain to cherish his memory are his wife, Norma of Aurora; daughter, Lori (Jay) Hunnicutt of Shawnee Mission, Kansas; son, Robert (Tamera) Wert of Aurora; son-in-law, Dr. Lennie (Joyce) Deaver of Cambridge; sister, Carolyn (Ronald) Henning of Lincoln; sister-in-law, Sharon Wert of Grand Island; 9 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and one more great-grandchild in September and many nieces, nephews, cousins and family members.
