Charles 'Charlie' Wilcox

Charles Wilcox, age 97, passed away on Friday, June 28, 2019, at Memorial Community Care in Aurora.

Funeral Services will be held on his birthday at 10:30 A.M., Friday, July 5th at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Aurora. Rev. Sarah Ruch will officiate. A Family Service will be at the Shelton Cemetery at 2:30 P.M. Friday. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to the Memorial Community Care. Charles E. Wilcox, the son of Charles Ray and Florence Ellen (Clark) Wilcox was born on July 5, 1921 in Adams County, Nebraska and passed away on June 28, 2019 in Aurora, Nebraska at the age of 97.

Charlie was married to Metta Katherine Schaefer on April 25, 1943 in St. Louis, Missouri, where Charlie was stationed during WWII. They met at a USO Dance, where they became Jitterbug Champions.

Charlie was a real estate broker for C. Wilcox Realty in Lincoln, Nebraska, for over 45 years, alongside his wife Metta. They would also sell Christmas Trees at the Wilcox Tree Farm near Shelton, Nebraska. They had three children: Jean, John, and Chuck. Metta passed away on July 18, 2014.

Charlie loved to fish, hunt and tell stories. They visited all 50 states and 17 foreign countries, and enjoyed several cruises.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Metta and six brothers and sisters.

Charlie will be dearly missed by his three children, Jean (Russ) Williss of Lincoln, Dr. John (Lynn) Wilcox of Aurora and Dr. Charles W. (Donna) Wilcox of Papillion; 5 grandchildren, David Williss, John Williss (Cassie), Heather Wilcox Peters (Brian), Robin Wilcox-Morris (Jeff) and Amanda Wilcox Johnson (Mark); 11 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by sister-in-law & brother-in-law, Barbara (Bill) Borghoff and sister-in-law, Jane Schaefer.
